Title: To fat tire or not to fat tire tis thy question
Post by robzridez on 08/02/06 at 22:43:27
Okay guys I have 2 weeks to decide this so give me your input. I have a 55 chevy project car. I really love those slammed to the ground and fat tired. However I dont want to put a cage in it and I would like to retain my back seat. If I do fat tire it, it will be mainly for looks. I plan on it being fast but not fast enough to warrant fat tires. I really want to biuld a really cool every day driver car. My dream has always been to own a fat tire 55 with very little chrome There used to be a orange 55 like this on the cover of several hot rod magazines back in the day. The other deal is it needs all the floors replace rear suspension and rear end I figured it both ways and It will cost about the same either way I go.

Why decide now? You will change your mind at least twice a day.   ;D

If you need a back seat and arn't racing it just stuff the largest tire you can under it. Like an 11.

I really unlike some people (i wont mention any names)dont want or need a bunch of cars sitting around. If I could sell the malibu Id say the hell with it and fat tire it and biuld another race car but since I already have one race car I dont need another unless its a slingshot

Without any type of cage support I wouldn't fat tire it. (Although there are kits that say they don't need it)

If you can mini tub it and get 12 or 13 inches under it, that's what I would do.

Alot of work to do a fat tire car without a cage. But can be done, a 4-bar set up would be best, ladder bars just dont let you get a car very low. If you want to do it withoout a cage look at the Art Morrison stuff, the have street chassis kits made from 2x4 rails instead of 2x3 rails most race type kits are made of. they have full frames also set for any type of suspension you want to run, including air if you want. They have lots of things for something you are talking about building.
